Department of Pathology

The department of Pathology deals with abnormal changes caused by disease. The department supports the clinical services and offers full diagnostic services in all areas of Pathology. The department has diagnostic and teaching responsibilities. The diagnostic section includes histopathology, cytology, hematology, immunopathology and blood bank facilities.

Department of Microbiology

The department of Microbiology is located in the second floor of Academic Building.It provides services for the diagnosis of infectious diseases of a bacterial, viral, parasitic, fungal or tubercular nature.

The aim and objectives of the department are

  • To provide an over view of Medical Microbiology and the impact of Microorganisms on life.
  • To explain the mechanisms of transmission, mode of infection, pathogenicity of bacterial, viral, fungal and protozoan diseases.
  • To teach students a range of practical microbiology skills, methodology of collecting information.
  • To provide accurate diagnosis of infection for effective treatment.

Department of Pharmacology

The department of Pharmacology is located in the second floor of Academic Building. It is well established innovative and dedicated to educating students. Emphasis is given to research.

The aim and objectives of the department are:

  • To impart the knowledge of Pharmacology for the use of drugs in various diseases.
  • A sound knowledge of treatment and prescription for all diseases, complications,adverse effects and drug interactions of all the drugs.
  • Problem based learning and training .

There is a separate section for “Pharmacovigilance Centre” which deals different projects concerned with adverse drug reactions and clinical auditing. Experiments on laboratory animals and also in isolated organs are being demonstrated to the students. In this direction a well-planned and well equipped Animal-House has been established as per the guidelines of CPCSEA.

Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology

The department of Forensic Medicine teaches the application of Medical knowledge for the administration of justice. (Medical legal knowledge) The department also teaches the undergraduate student the general principles, identification, analysis, treatment and laws related to poisons. The departmental museum is well equipped with specimens and charts for teaching purpose.

    Department of Community Medicine

    The department of Community Medicine is committed towards improving quality of Teaching and Training in the practice of medicine holistically encompassing promotive, preventive , curative and rehabilitative aspects of disease. It is not limited within the four walls of class rooms, but, extended as a community based training through Urban Training Centre and Rural Training Centre. Students are posted here in batches for family visits and to participate in socio clinical case presentation. Faculty members and specialists from Obstetric & Gynaecology, Pediatric, General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedics and ENT departments are also involved in the community based teaching and training programme. The department is also coordinating other activities included in the National Programmes.
